Today is a new day, friends. Fall is here. In the blink of an eye, it will be the holidays. That reminds me, I need to go put my Christmas tree up. BRB. There has never been a better time to take a little slice of time for you and improve your gut health.
Why is it important to improve gut health?
This is the foundation of your immune system
This is where most of your seratonin is produced
This helps you to avoid discomfort and excess inflammation
There have been more and more studies recently on the importance of gut health. It is critical to establish a healthy gut bacteria barrier so that your body can function to its best capabilities. If you are a mom, like me, this is critically important! You need to keep up with your people and not be stuck in bed, upright, with heartburn.
If you know me, you know my story with gut health began seven years ago when I had such bad and painful acid reflux, that I could not bend over. I could not wear any sports bra and could not tie my bathrobe. Anything that touched my mid section was going to spark acid reflux, or heartburn. I had an endoscopy and was put on two prescription medications. I resigned myself to the fact that it was "my time" and this was normal, to be put on prescriptions indefinitely. When I spoke to a chiropractic doctor, he informed me that my gut health microbiome was off and that was why I was having acid reflux. I was stunned.
He shared that the answer was taking probiotics, not taking prescriptions that were going to block your body's regular acid production. I switched to a plant based, probiotic and prebiotic blend and to my astonishment, my acid reflux was eliminated in thirty days.
I am not a medical professional. And if you are someone who deals with sever acid reflux or other digestive issues, you will want to always consult with a medical professional before you begin any regimen. I share my story with you because it worked for me.
Let's get into the three ways you can improve your gut health this summer. Keep in mind, it takes about 30 days for your digestive system, or "gut" to heal. It is a slow process, but so worth it in the end.
Choose a high quality, plant based probiotic with a prebiotic blend. Without getting too medical-ly, you need prebiotics because they feed the probiotics and you want to keep as many of the probiotics alive and into your system, as you can. Here is my absolute fave probiotic that I take every day: https://www.arbonne.com/us/en/arb/JessicaChaon/shop-all/nutrition/powders/guthealth-digestion-%26-microbiome-support/p/2063%20US . You can choose your own as well. You want to make sure it has the prebiotic element with the probiotics.
Drink more water. Water is an amazing element that helps our body to flush inflammation and toxins. As soon as I wake up, I drink a 30 oz glass of water to get my digestive system going. This is so important! Add a slice of lemon for even better detox properties!
Stop eating after 7:00pm. I know. This was a tough one for me too. And I am not perfect, but we can all strive for progress, right? You must give your system a rest. When we stop eating after 7:00pm, it gives our whole digestive system time to rest and restore and rebalance hormones. You will find when you wake up, you feel more refreshed and restored than ever before. Try it for a week and see and feel a tremendous shift!
Gut health is the utmost importance to your overall health and wellness. It is where you want to start. It is the foundation of feeling better. And when your body begins to feel better and improve every day, you regain energy, have better sleep and better clarity and focus, just to name a few benefits. There are so many!
I know for me, I found that I lost a lot of inflammation in my body as a whole. I was sleeping better. My skin cleared up from acne. I felt full of energy and so refreshed. Take time to work on your gut health this summer. You will feel a difference. Your family will notice a difference. And it will give you the pep back in your step that you have been craving.
I believe in YOU. You matter to me. You matter to your family. So let's get after it!
